Logos Bible Software
Gateway Seminary Discount Program
Gateway Seminary has arranged special discount pricing for students to purchase
Logos Bible Software for a 30% or greater discount.
MDiv students and students taking Greek and Hebrew are required
to have Logos Bible Software for biblical languages courses. The software is
also strongly recommended for any student taking New Testament, Old
Testament, Biblical Hermeneutics, Theology or Preaching courses.
What is Logos Bible Software?
Logos Bible Software
lets you read and search through dozens of English Bible translations, as well
as the original Greek New Testament and Hebrew Old Testament. It is the modern
way to do Bible study.
Logos is more than just a collection of searchable Bibles. It also includes
numerous digital reference books that will greatly assist your Bible study and
ministry. All of your reference books and Bibles are linked together so you
can look up information in reference books just by clicking on a word in the
Bible. You can look up information in Greek and Hebrew lexicons directly from
English Bibles. This allows people who know little or no Greek or Hebrew to
use the best modern Bible study reference books.
Logos also includes tools to aid many practical aspects of Christian ministry,
such as sermon preparation, counseling and Bible teaching. You can read more
about the capabilities of Logos at http://www.logos.com/features.
Logos Libraries
Logos bundles many Bibles and widely used reference books into collections
called "Libraries."
The collection of books in a Logos Library sell for up to a 97% discount
off the cost of these books in print. Although you may not be interested
in every book in a Library, there is certain to be enough books in the collection
that you will save immensely on books that you really want to use for your studies
and ministry.
The books included in each Logos Library are listed on in the comparison chart
at https://www.logos.com/configure/libraries?trackName=Researcher.
Minimum Library for Gateway Seminary Students
The following Library is the required minimum for MDiv and Greek/Hebrew students
at Gateway Seminary. It is also suitable for other seminary students.
- 2026
Researcher Gold ($595 at the academic discount): This set includes
more than 360 biblical studies reference books for relatively little cost.
It includes dozens of English Bibles, the Greek New Testament, the Hebrew
Bible and the Septuagint (LXX) with a wealth of information about every word
and clause, even from the English Bibles. This library includes Bible dicionaries,
books on the cultures of the biblical world and books on the theology and
history of the New Testament and Old testament. It also includes some high-quality
modern Bible commentaries, including International Critical Commentary
(69 vols.) and UBS Handbooks (68 volumes). It includes basic tools
for studying the Bible in the original languages, such as Greek and Hebrew
lexicons, grammars and word study books, including the Abridged Theological
Dictionary of the New Testament and Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon.
For less than the price of a single Bible commentary set, this is a collection
of reference books for Bible study. It is a wise investment for pastors, teachers
and serious Bible students.
Note: Be careful not to order other libraries with similar names, such as Standard
Gold, Preacher Gold, and Leader Gold. The Researcher libraries are intended
for seminary students and generally offer a better balance of high quality modern
reference books than other other libraries of the same level.
Recommended Libraries
In order to build a more well-rounded collection of Bible study reference books,
the following is highly recommended:.
- Logos 8 Platinum Legacy
Library ($1050 at the academic discount) [highly
recommended]: The best all-around Logos collection
(1100 books worth over $26,000). This well-balanced set of books is a wise
investment for pastors, teachers and serious Bible students. It includes hundreds
of important and expensive reference books that will equip you for a lifetime
of Bible study, sermon preparation and scholarly research. It contains many
excellent modern Bible commentaries at several levels of depth, including
the Pillar New Testament Commentaries (18 volumes), New International
Greek Testament Commentaries (13 volumes), New American Commentaries
(43 volumes), Tyndale Commentaries (47 volumes), UBS Handbooks
(68 volumes) and SIL Exegetical Summaries (34 volumes). It includes
excellent Bible dictionaries, such as Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary(AYBD)
and New Dictionary of Biblical Theology. For studying the Bible in
the original languages, it includes many standard Greek and Hebrew lexicons,
grammars and word study books. These include Bauer's Greek-English Lexicon
of the New Testament (BDAG), which is the standard scholarly Greek lexicon
(required for Greek classes), Theological Dictionary of the New Testament
(TDNT, 10 volumes), Liddell-Scott-Jones, A Greek-English Lexicon
(the authoritative lexicon for classical Greek), Dictionary of Classical
Hebrew (9 vol), Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, and Louw-Nida, Greek-English
Lexicon Based on Semantic Domains. All of the writings of the Church
Fathers are included in English translation (37 volumes) and many are included
in Greek. It also includes additional reference books to help you understand
the Greek and Hebrew Bibles, including guides to textual criticism, aligned
Septuagint and Hebrew Bible, and lots more! For a few hundred dollars more
than Researcher Gold, this library is far superior and will save you thousands
of dollars in essential reference books for Bible study and ministry.
- Logos 8 Gold Legacy
Library ($595 at the academic discount): A good choice
if you do not plan to take Greek or Hebrew. It includes several
sets of useful Bible commentaries, such as the Pillar New Testament Commentaries
(18 volumes), New American Commentaries (43 volumes) and
Tyndale Commentaries (47 volumes). It includes excellent Bible dictionaries,
such as Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary(AYBD) and New Dictionary
of Biblical Theology. Although the Greek and Hebrew books are not as
top drawer as those in the Logos 8 Platinum Legacy Library, there are still
several of value for general Bible students, including Abridged Theological
Dictionary of the New Testament (TDNTA), Theological Lexicon of the
New Testament, A Dictionary of Biblical Languages With Semantic Domains,
Liddell-Scott-Jones, A Greek-English Lexicon. Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew
Lexicon and Theological Lexicon of the Old Testament. All of
the writings of the Church Fathers are included in English translation (37
volumes) and many are included in Greek.
Note: Logos calls these "legacy libraries," because they contain the
books that Logos offered in its standard libraries a few years ago. However, the
Bible commentaries in the legacy libraries are generally more useful for evangelical
pastors and seminary students than those in the current Researcher Gold or Researcher
Platinum libraries.
Should I Get a Denominational Library?
Logos offers several versions of libraries that they call "Baptist",
"Reformed", etc. This can be confusing because they have similar names
to standard libraries (e.g. Baptist Platinum vs. Researcher Platinum vs. Logos
8 Platinum Legacy Library). The denominational base packages include books written
from a particular theological tradition, but remove some essential reference
books that are used by all Christians. Unfortunately, this means you miss the
opportunity to buy some very expensive and important reference books at very
little cost. In their place you get many books from a particular theological
position, many of which are older and mainly of interest to church historians
and scholars.
It is best to buy a "researcher" or "legacy" library, then
later purchase any books that you are interested in studying from a particular
theological tradition. You can also upgrade to a tradition-specific library
for a greatly reduced price once you own a standard base package.

Computer System Requirements
Logos is available in Windows and Macintosh versions. Your license lets you
run either version. You can also read and search most books on a mobile device,
such as a smart phone or tablet.
You can install Logos on multiple computers that you and your family use. Your
personal notes, highlighting, collections, searches and customizations synchronize
automatically between computers over the Internet, even between Windows and
Macintosh computers. If you later get a new computer, everything automatically
transfers over.
Detailed computer system requirements are listed at https://www.logos.com/system-requirements.
You will need considerable free disk space to store all of your Logos books.
Logos recommends at least 30GB of free space.
Logos works best with a high speed Internet connection, at least when you are
downloading books and upgrades. Once the books are downloaded to your computer,
you can use most program functions when offline, such as on an airplane. The software
is automatically updated periodically over the Internet. Your notes, highlighing
and customizations are saved on the Logos servers on "the Cloud", so
if you upgrade your computer they will be automatically transfered.
Initial downloading of books can take up to an hour since you will be downloading
many gigabytes of books. Then the program requires several hours to index all
of your books. It is recommended that you plan to let the initial installation
and indexing run uninterrupted over night, then restart your computer.
